Frank's Story.

Frank's birth was registered at Stockport between June and August 1893. The 1901 Census indicates that his mother was Elizabeth Canovan, then aged 45.  She had been married to Peter Canovan who had died in 1893. At the time of the Census, Frank McCue was living at the family home and was, probably, the father of Frank and his younger brother, James. Elizabeth had six children from her marriage. One of them, John, was father of Allen Canovan. Frank was married and lived with his wife and son, also named Frank, at 6 Lucas Street, Stockport. He worked as a dyer at the works of Melland & Coward Ltd, Heaton Mersey, until he volunteered for the army in September 1914. After training at Basingstoke and Andover, the Battalion went on active service to France on 18/19 July 1916.Frank was killed during the opening phase of the Battle of the Somme.
