Matthias Mycroft's Story.
Son of Matthias and Annie Mycroft Davidson, of 23 Garden Street, Macclesfield, Cheshire.
Private Davidson's death was reported in the Macclesfield Times on 25 October 1918:
PTE MATHIAS DAVIDSON, Lancs Fus, son of Mr and Mrs Davidson, 23 Garden Street, Macclesfield, was killed in France on October 5th. Pte Davidson enlisted on September 13th, 1916, and was drafted to France on February 23rd last. He was 20 years of age and was educated at Daybrook Street School, and attended Hurdsfield Church. Prior to enlistment he was employed at the Clarence Mill, Bollington.
Private Matthias Davidson is buried in grave ref. VI. G. 13. at Vis-en-Artois British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. His father asked for the inscription HE ANSWERED DUTY'S CALL to be added to his headstone.
Locally, Private Matthias Davidson is commemorated on the Park Green and Town Hall war memorials, and on the Macclesfield Ancient Order of Foresters and the George Swindells and Son (Clarence Mill, Bollington) rolls of honour.
