Richard's Story.

Richard was born in Burton, Tarvin, Cheshire in 1897. He lived with his father Thomas Edward, a farmer, and his mother Mary at The Hamlet, Crowton, Cheshire. He had 3 brothers, Thomas, Jessie & Robert, and 3 sisters, Ellen, Mary & Alice. By 1911 his father had died and the family were living at "Highwayside", Tarporley, Cheshire. Richard was now a joiner's apprentice. They later movet to "The Lilacs", Alpraham, Cheshire.

  Richard enlisted in Crewe, Cheshire on the 7th December 1915. He entered France on the 8th September 1917. He was posted to the 14th Battalion on the 23rd September 1917. He was killed in action on the 7th December 1917. He is buried at Ration Farm Cemetery, La Chapelle-d'Armentieres, Nord France. IV B8.
