LILY HEGINBOTHAM

Lily was born 6th August 1921, before the war she lived with her parents Edith Annie and Thomas Edward Clarke at 8 Webb Lane, Offerton. Lily joined the ATS and for a while she was based at Shrewsbury, pictured below is Lily with friends taken at Abby Gardens, Shrewsbury, July 1943.

Lily was discharged 2nd May 1944 when she was expecting her first child, Malcolm who was born October 1944. When Walter returned home they moved to a new council house at Churchill Crescent, Lily is listed on the electoral roll as living at 4, Churchill Crescent, Stockport between 2003 and 2005, it was the family home for over 60 years.

Lily and Walter would have two more children, Rodney born April 1947 and Beryl born August 1954. Lily for a while worked at John Myers at Houldsworth Mill and was a very active member of the United Reform Church in Lilian Grove, Reddish as well as teh Church Warden for many years.

Sadly Lily was killed in a road traffic accident Christmas Day 2004 in Wales.
