Thomas's Story.
Birkenhead News 13 June 1917BIRKENHEAD CANADIAN KILLED IN ACTION.
“Determined to Do His Bit.”
The sad news has been received by Mrs. McGuinness, of 27, Watson Street, that her son, Private Thomas McGuinness, of the 19th Canadians, has been killed in action. The young patriot tried to enlist at the commencement of the war, but owing to a slight weakness of the heart he was refused. Feeling his position keenly he journeyed to the United States, and after a short time there he went to Canada and joined the Canadian Army in April last year. Private McGuinness had been at the front for about eight months. He was an old St. Laurence’s School boy, and well-known in the town. He has “done his bit” to the full extent. No man could do more, and to his sorrowing mother and relatives we extend sincere sympathy. Mrs. McGuinness has the knowledge that her “boy” has died in Freedom’s cause.
